Free Fourth Grade Library Lesson – Library Orientation Lesson

This free fourth grade library lesson for library orientation features a library scavenger hunt or datatbase scavenger hunt and is included in my Full Year Library Curriculum. I’m not a big fan of scavenger hunts but this one has a fun twist!

Anticipatory Set

Show the cover. Ask students what they see and think about the cover.

 

Mini Lesson and Read Aloud

1.Have students predict the character, setting, problem, and solution by looking at the cover.

2.Read Gibberish by Young Vo.

3.Review story elements from the story.

4.Activity:

1.Option 1: Library Scavenger Hunt in Partners:

1.Have students complete a library scavenger hunt without talking. Students must communicate in other ways. Edit the scavenger hunt to fit your library.

2.Option 2: SAME ACTIVITY FOR 3-5: Database Scavenger Hunt: Individual – Requires Laptops

1.Model how to access your library database page. Have students fill out the database scavenger hunt.
