Kindergarten skills can vary wildly at this age, so these kindergarten lessons focus on engaging read alouds and simple library skills like characters, parts of a book, making connections to characters, illustrator, nonfiction books, opinion writing, problem solving, events in a story, character and setting, and more.

First grade lessons focus on excellent read alouds and library skills, including characters, parts of a book, setting, nonfiction text features of the table of contents and captions, opinion writing, connections to characters, story elements, character traits, biographies, nonfiction, problem and solution, temporal words, facts, and more.

Second grade is one of my favorite grades to teach library skills to! These second grade lessons are all about fun read alouds and library skills, including writing stories, character and setting, opinion writing, graphic novels, nonfiction text features, illustrator techniques, biography, nonfiction, comics, and more.

I love teaching third grade lessons because their writing skills are improving, and they love read alouds! Third grade library lessons include writing humourous stories, persuasive writing, fairytales, nonfiction, events in a story, connections to characters, biography, writing stories, research skills, nonfiction text features, facts, and more. Third grade lessons have printable options or directions for using a blank PowerPoint or Google Slide.

Fourth grade lessons have options for a paper activity, blank PowerPoint, or Google Slide, as shown here. Fourth grade library lessons include read alouds every class and lessons on author’s craft, author’s purpose, writing stories, nonfiction and opinions, facts, poetry, fantasy stories, nonfiction text features, and more.

Fifth grade lessons have options for a paper activity, blank PowerPoint, or Google Slide. Fifth grade lessons include a read aloud every class, and library lessons about writing stories, opinion writing, persuasive writing, connections to characters, author’s purpose, how-to writing, informative writing, creating characters, nonfiction text features, comics, and more.
