There are so many excellent books for author studies for fourth grade. Look for engaging read alouds that students can connect to, and link them to a library skill. 

Tips for Fourth Grade Author Studies:

• Fourth graders should still listen to read alouds! Pick a variety of picture books, nonfiction books, comics, and biographies.
• Share chapter books before checkout time to increase their chapter book checkouts, but there is nothing wrong with them taking whatever they choose!
• Get excited about the read alouds! Make it a routine that they listen to a read aloud every single class. They’ll know exactly what to expect.

Fourth Grade Author Study – Bridget Heos

A good way to win over students with read alouds is with HUMOR. Mustache Baby may be one of my favorite read alouds of all time. Fourth graders get the humor and it’s such a fun class.

Fourth Grade Author Study – Derrick Barnes

This comic story is longer than a read aloud I would typically pick, but it’s completely worth it. The illustrations, the message, and the story will engage your students from start to finish. I recommend using a document camera to help with the illustrations.
