Mock Caldecott is one of my favorite times! We are early in the year so there’s a good chance that the contenders haven’t been released yet. I will try to update this list periodically throughout the year, but look for the finalized list in November or December.
My Criteria for Picking Mock Caldecott 2026 Contenders:
- I pick books that I think students in kindergarten through fifth grade would enjoy listening to.
- I choose books that I enjoy reading aloud, because kids can tell if you don’t like what they are reading.
- Books must have an interesting story that students will find engaging!
- I don’t worry if I’m actually predicting the winner. I focus on sharing fun read alouds with kids.
